Bright Idea
Product Design, Industrial Design, Fabrication
Inspired by the playful light interactions through the constraint of form of the work by artist Aaronel deRoy Gruber, I created a table side lamp using just square and rectangular shapes. I relied on the play of color and delightful interactions to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

In order to make the box stable but still be pushed down
with ease, I went through many sketch ideas to figure out
how I could make it work. I felt the best way would be to
have the same button be placed underneath the top box
evenly with the one working button, that way the tension
would be the same throughout. I glued springs to the
buttons to add more tension in order to hold the weight
of the acrylic box.

Final Prototype
Sketches
I played around with different forms and ways of
interacting. I liked the ones with very simple forms
and interactions. I settled on angled acrylic colored
panels that intersected with a clear acrylic box. The
box would be pushed down to turn the light on.
