Early brand identity exploration and ideation for an emerging initiative

-

I contributed to the early brand identity exploration and ideation for an emerging initiative. My co-designer and I worked on defining the foundational content system for how a cancer navigation nonprofit initiative in Pittsburgh would communicate its mission and services.

Completed under contract with Dezudio.

The team had a large set of disconnected materials—grant proposals, research documents, flyers, and early messaging drafts—but no consistent tone, messaging structure, or unified language. Different documents were describing the organization in slightly different ways, which made the overall identity unclear.

We organized the material into categories like mission, values, strategies, and outcomes, and used that to define a consistent way the organization should talk about its work.

During a collaborative 2–3 day sprint, we contributed to generating logo concepts, exploring multiple visual directions for the organization’s identity. Several of these concepts were selected for client presentation and further refinement.

Our early logo concepts and language recommendations were incorporated into the iterative process of exploring, evaluating, and defining the logo mark, and the organization's mission, vision, and values. The final outputs were delivered to the client along with a set of brand guidelines that defined tone, messaging structure, and core language principles, which the team used as a reference for future branding and communication. The direction was approved by stakeholders and informed the final visual identity, including logo selection.

Stay tuned for the publication of the brand!
